Our Vision
The Black Dot Roots & Culture Collective (BeDRoCC) is an organization of indigenous peoples who identify with the Black experience through African descent. We are committed to the education of youth and adults, the creation of art and the celebration of heritage at home and abroad through sharing our knowledge and stories. Our vision is to connect the dots of the community so we can all see the big picture of unity. At home in Vancouver, BeDRoCC facilitates space for the oral traditions of diverse communities and indigenous peoples. Since 2008 BeDRoCC has partnered with other networks in Vancouver to organize and produce a number of artistic and educational events. These events have taken place in some of Vancouver’s more notable neighbourhoods. Some of these events include the Annual Pan African Slam, the Art of Word, and Spoken Word Sound Power. Each of these events has brought forth talent from all over North America to be featured in Vancouver’s hot spots to inspire local poets and the general community. By inviting and hosting these featured talents to Vancouver, BeDRoCC is helping to put Vancouver on the larger map as a city that values cultural diversity and artistic expression of all types.
